QIU Atelier Origami-Inspired Octagonal Coffee Cup & Saucer

Created by QIU Atelier in collaboration with Issey Miyake, this sculptural coffee cup brings together the fashion house’s signature origami (paper folding) design language and the form of ancient Chinese octagonal ritual vessels. Its eight-sided silhouette evokes the auspicious expression bā fāng lái yí (八方来仪)—a wish for harmony and good fortune arriving from all directions.

The angular form is developed from the studio’s folded-structure series, with continuous ridgelines creating shifting planes of light and shadow. Crafted from black clay and finished by hand with pure silver, the surface has a softly textured, starlit appearance that lends warmth and movement to its precise geometric silhouette.

Material: Black Clay

Size: Cup  Ø 7.8 x 7 cm, 145ml / 4.9 oz; Saucer Ø 10 x 1.5 cm

Place of Origin: Jingdezhen, Zhejiang Province, China

Handmade Disclaimer

Each piece is made entirely by hand without the use of moulds. Slight variations in shape, size and proportion are therefore expected, making every piece unique. Small traces of the making process—including white or dark specks of approximately 1 mm and subtle lines formed as the glass is folded—may also occur. These characteristics are inherent to handmade glass and are not considered defects.

Vintage pieces may show signs of age and previous use, including minor scratches, marks and other imperfections. These characteristics are part of their history and are not considered defects; returns or exchanges will not be accepted on this basis. All these marks will show in photographs. Please review all photographs carefully before purchasing.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

The glaze has developed unique crackles during firing. We recommend avoiding use with dark-coloured sauces or deeply pigmented fruit juices, as these may stain the surface.

Please hand wash only. Do not place in the dishwasher.

Shipping & Handling

While unlikely, if your box arrives punctured, crushed or damaged, take a picture of it prior to opening. If a piece is damaged during shipping, please notify us at romuobjects@gmail.com within 2 days of receiving the product, along with a photo of the damage.
