commonstate Sho(r)t Wine Glass
Sho(r)t is a diminutive, hand-blown wine glass from commonstate’s Rippling series. Its compact bowl draws on research tracing the changing size of British wine glasses between 1700 and 2017—a period during which their average capacity increased sevenfold in response to shifts in glassmaking technology, taxation, social wealth and drinking culture.

By returning to a smaller form, commonstate reconnects the contemporary object with an earlier history of glass production, when vessels were individually formed by hand. Delicate, rippling lines curl around the stem, giving the glass a playful sculptural presence while preserving traces of the making process.
The reduced bowl naturally moderates each pour and encourages the glass to be refilled and passed around the table. For commonstate, this repeated exchange becomes more than a practical gesture: it is a quiet expression of attention and care between those who share the table.

About commonstate
commonstate is a research-oriented art and design studio working between Beijing and London. Its practice draws upon speculative visions of future anthropology and archaeology, reconsidering the everyday condition of objects while exploring the contemporaneity of materials and the non-verbal languages they carry. Through continual experimentation, the studio brings artisanal knowledge into contemporary public view and encourages interdisciplinary conversations that move across boundaries of time and space.
Handmade Disclaimer
Each piece is made entirely by hand without the use of moulds. Slight variations in shape, size and proportion are therefore expected, making every piece unique. Small traces of the making process—including white or dark specks of approximately 1 mm and subtle lines formed as the glass is folded—may also occur. These characteristics are inherent to handmade glass and are not considered defects.
Vintage pieces may show signs of age and previous use, including minor scratches, marks and other imperfections. These characteristics are part of their history and are not considered defects; returns or exchanges will not be accepted on this basis. All these marks will show in photographs. Please review all photographs carefully before purchasing.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
The glaze has developed unique crackles during firing. We recommend avoiding use with dark-coloured sauces or deeply pigmented fruit juices, as these may stain the surface.
Please hand wash only. Do not place in the dishwasher.
Shipping & Handling
While unlikely, if your box arrives punctured, crushed or damaged, take a picture of it prior to opening. If a piece is damaged during shipping, please notify us at romuobjects@gmail.com within 2 days of receiving the product, along with a photo of the damage.
